North District XC Relays – 14/10/2017

2 Golds, 2 Silvers, 1 Bronze and everyone giving it their all sums up an outstanding day for MRR at the North District XC Relays. East Sutherland AC once again played host to the Relays with the Edderton course providing the usual mix of hills, water and excellent conditions.

First off were the junior girls with 3 MRR teams on the start line. A great effort from the girls with the team of Beth Urquhart, Ellyn Smith and Grace Whelan proving too good on the day for their rivals to claim Gold and set the standard for the other teams. Well done to Harriet, Nicole, Niamh, Megan, Morven and Grace for tremendous runs over the 2.5k course and for providing great vocal support throughout.

2 MRR boys teams battled hard in the junior boys race with  the trio of Roy Taylor, Joshua Milne and Blair Milne rewarded with a Bronze, not too far behind Ross County and Inverness Harriers. Our other team of Liam, Bruce and Morgan could not have given anymore and can be justifiably proud of their performance.

The Senior Men and Ladies set off together with senior and masters medals up for grabs. Our 5 teams performed admirably with the Leg 1 runners jostling for positions over the 4k course. Without knowing the running order of other teams it is hard to predict how things will unfold but what an outstanding effort from the Senior Ladies team to power through to take Gold from HHR and Forres Harriers. Really well done Susan Rae, Justine Blaszk and Louise Cartmell. The Masters team of Karen, Amanda and Maria and, also, Clare made sure that yellow vests were prominent throughout the race with our Masters just missing out on Bronze.

In the Men’s race it was always going to be hard against powerful Inverness Harriers A and B Teams and an excellent HHR Masters Team. Therefore, Senior Silvers for Colin Green, James Wilson, Gareth Jenkins and Kenny Wilson and Masters Silvers for Martin Bain, Robert Bruce, Nigel Williams and Andy Alexander were the best MRR could have hoped for so a great effort from the men and, also, Jason, Brian, Darrin and Simon for a strong B Team performance. Well done also to Kenny for posting the joint fastest leg of the day.

Everyone should be incredibly proud of their part in making this another successful day for the Club so well done everybody and thank you as always to our East Sutherland hosts, Ross Cairns and SA officials for a fantastic event.
