Midnight Runway Run

This is an unusual race as it is held at Midnight on Inverness runway.  36 people took part in this event, organised by Clic Sargent and H&I Airport Inverness.  I was the sole MRR runner.Helen and stormtroopers
Photo ID was required as you were classes as airspace for security reasons.  We were all bused out onto the runway just before midnight.  Any spectators had to stay in the departure lounge.

As I got off the bus I was shocked at how dark it was, even though the runway was lit up but as it’s so wide it was dark!!!  A wee warmup, to get the engines running, then we were off.  All you could see was a very bright white light in front of you.  This was a strange feeling as you could not judge your distance or see anyone else until up close.  One good thing was that the wind was on your back from the start, however, when you reached the white light you went round a flashing cone and hit the headwind home.  Due to me wearing flashing wristbands I was clearly seen by all.

This race was just short of 4km, which I completed in 13 mins 39 secs.  I felt I was flying and finished 3rd overall and 1st woman.
I met some great folk, it certainly was an unusual Saturday night and I’m sure lots of money was raised for a good cause.
