Four Moray Road Runners took part in the 2017 Haughs of Cromdale 10k road race – Steve Reeve, Dave Mathers, David Ingleby and myself. This was the 3rd time the race has been organised with a record turnout of 35 runners after 28 and 20 in previous years.
The weather was changeable. Heavy rain and rainbows were seen on the way to Cromdale and the rain came and went before the start. After standing about at the start in light rain, the clouds cleared for the run and most of it was completed in the dry.
It is a testing course with several undulations. The start is uphill. It is all on a minor road out and back from the bridge in the middle of Cromdale.
There was no traffic at all so no need to jump into the side of the road.
The race was well organised with changing facilities and toilets at the hall. Km markers marked each km and there was a water station which could be accessed twice (out & back course).
Back at the hall there was a fine spread of hot soup, sandwiches, pancakes with lots of jam and cakes.
There was also a raffle where I was lucky enough to win 4 bottles of beer.
There is a nice engraved wooden display of the past male and female winners of the race in the hall to which the names of Terry Forrest (Cairngorm Runners) and Gemma Cormack (Inverness Harriers) will be added, both with new course records of 33:15 and 39:46.
The Moray Road Runners finished as follows:
3rd Steve Reeve 39:21 2nd MSV
10th Chris Smith 44:04
14th Dave Mathers 46:50
32nd David Ingelby 58:04
