There was a fantastic turnout from MRR for the Glen Moray races which incorporate a 10k, Half and Full Marathon. Blessed with almost perfect conditions – overcast and little wind – there were some fine performances over the undulating courses that take in some beautiful scenery on the outskirts of Elgin around Miltonduff, Pluscarden, Dallas and Kellas.
First off at 9.30am were our 2 first-time marathon runners, Chris Smith and Paul Geraghty, who both coped well on the tough course and increasing heat to finish in vey respectable times. Well done guys.
It was great to see so many yellow vests on the start line for the 10k and Half Marathon which set off together at 10.30am. First home in the 10k was Gareth Jenkins who finished 2nd overall to claim the first V40 prize. Well done to Colin Green, Nigel Williams, Robert Bruce, Euan Cantlie, Simon Macdonald, Toks Osinrunade, David Ingleby, Bernard Salmon, Dave Mathers, Steven Morrison, Susan Rae, Faye Mallen, Helen Low, Karene Ferrier, and Fiona Hamilton for supporting the Club at a local event.
It was an outstanding team performance in the Half Marathon with our ladies – Louise Cartmell and Elspeth Jenkins – claiming 1st and 2nd overall in the Ladies Race. Elspeth was awarded the 1st V40 prize. With Ally Campbell (4th) and Steve Reeve (6th) winning 1st V40 and 1st V50 respectively, the combined efforts of these 4 was good enough for MRR to take the overall team prize. Well done team and well done also to Garry Henderson, Karen Norvell, Paul Jamieson, Debbie Barron, Andy Price, Clare Bufton, Paul Innes, Eve Norman and Kimberley Clark. Great running on a testing course.
Many thanks to Graham, Fay and all at Glen Moray Distillery for their hospitality and to Paul Rogan and the Forres Harriers team for putting on such a popular event.
