Forres Try-a-Tri 21/06/2014

This year saw a change to the normal mix of on and off road cycling to fully on the road. It was also taken over and run by Moray Firth Triathlon Club for the first time.

Although very wet in Elgin before the event started it held off in Forres until later on in the competition.

I was in the first heat, being a slower swimmer, so I missed the rain totally for the race.  I was nervous of the new cycle course in case I got lost but it was a nice easy cycle on quiet roads, very well marked out and marshals at the junctions.  I never saw another competitor on my run, which was a lovely trail run through Sanquhar Woods, so it was a relief to see it was very well marked out and a couple of Marshals at key points.

Taking part from Moray Road Runners was Kenny Wilson who did fantastically well to come second place (first senior male) in his first triathlon in a time of 47.32 mins.

Kevin Morice was fifth overall and second senior male in 50:19 mins.  I completed the race in 1:07:31 – no prizes – but had a great time and picked up a few pointers for faster transitions in my next events.

It was really great to see so many people trying this type of event for the first time and they all seemed to enjoy it.

A big thank you for all the effort from Moray Firth Triathlon Club in organising a complicated event and all the marshals, helpers and refreshments etc.
