With surprisingly fresh legs I headed off to Carlisle racecourse on Sunday 17th January for my first 10K of the year. It was touch and go whether it would go ahead due to the snow. The 2015 event had been cancelled due to bad weather. The start time was put back an hour to 1200 to allow competitors enough time to get to Carlisle after a pitch inspection at 9.00 am. Word came through at breakfast that it was on so I settled for scrambled eggs rather than the full English. The organisers and the council had gritted the route and ensured the event could proceed.
It was a flat circular course from the racecourse on quiet slushy roads. The sun was out and there were sunglasses a plenty. I’d had a quick drive round the course beforehand to get an idea of the route. I finished in 44:57 just 30 seconds outside my September Glen Moray best which wasn’t bad given the temperature and road conditions.
