The LossieThon is a Half Marathon organised by RAF Lossiemouth, this is the second year it has been run. It is ran for charity and this year it was in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund. They had moved the start this year, previously it started at the gates of RAF Lossiemouth but this year registration and start was held at the child care centre, which was much better as it meant access to toilets and a place to keep your bags.
The weather was ideal for this race and there was a good showing of MRRs with 7 members running, they were:
Karen Norvell, Robert Bruce, Alex Smith, Simon Dobbs, Claire Reilly, Simon Garland, Louise Cartmell and Steve Reeve. There were some
good results for us as well with Steve Reeve finishing 3rd in 1:22:40, Simon Dobbs 4th in 1:25:09, Louise Cartmell was 2nd lady and 6th overall in 1:28:03. A special mention must go to Alex Smith who had her 17th Birthday on the Saturday and ran her first ever HM on the Sunday, despite being full of birthday cake and chocolate ran a superb time of 1:36:55.
This was a very enjoyable race, the entrants were up from last year to 77 and I imagine it will grow each year. A good warmup race for The Turkey Trot in December.
