The Grampian Athletics League Final saw 7 MRR age group teams competing against the best teams from the North and East and our athletes didn’t disappoint with some tremendous individual and team performances. With Tamsin Fowlie, Megan McKay and Kyle Wilkinson winning the first 3 track events (100m), the standard was set for the day. Tamsin and Kyle both completed a double by claiming victory in the 200m as well. There were fine performances also in the longer races with Joshua Milne and Niamh Whelan (800m) and our senior 1500m runners (Michelle Slater, Elspeth Jenkins and Gareth Jenkins) all producing PBs. How great it was to see more seniors competing for the 1st time and adding to the atmosphere.
In the field there were further strong performances from our experienced athletes but also from those ‘filling in the gaps’ to claim points for the team. Undoubtedly, there were more PBs and these will be confirmed once the results are published. As always, only the top 3 age group teams are announced at the prizegiving so it was fantastic to hear that our U13 Boys and U13 Girls both claimed 3rd team with only 5 points separating the top 3 girls’ teams. With 34 competing MRR athletes it was a superb (and noisy) occasion!
It has been another successful season for MRR. The team spirit and effort seems to improve each year and it is great to see our regular competitors and supporters helping along those new to competition. MRR can certainly hold their own against the traditional track and field clubs so a massive well done and thank you to everyone that has contributed to the league this season.
