North District Track and Field Champs- 13/14 May 2016

Great couple of days Athletics at the North District Track and Field Champs.Medals

A total of 22 members of MRRs took part with some spectacular results, including a double sprint glory and a championship best.

Friday evening saw a string of medal winning performances for MRR with golds for Jack Mitchell in the U20 men’s hammer and Tamsin Fowlie in the U13 200m.

There were triple jump silvers for Blair Milne (U15) and Sam Anderson (U17) and Silver for U17s Grace Whelan and Andrew Stoker in the 1500m and 200m respectively.  U15 1500m bronze medals for Blair Milne and Niamh Whelan rounded off a successful opening to the competition.

Saturday was day two and once again the MRRs showed tremendous effort and team spirit across the full range of track and field.

The senior men struck gold with Kevin Morice taking the 110m hurdles, Darrin Cameron (high Jump), Gareth Jenkins (500m) and Gary Sweeney doubling up with success in the shot putt and discus.  Returning from injury, Dionne Milne (U20 Discus) showed that she is on the road to recovery with a championship best performance to take gold.

Tamsin Fowlie then followed up her 200m gold to take gold in the 100m with just 7/100ths of a second separating the first three athletes. She also took silver in the long jump.

The MRR medals continued to flow with Silver for Kevin Morice in the 500m and U17 silvers for Grace Whelan (800m), Tom Jenkins (long jump) and Andrew Stoker (100m)

Sisters Beth and Niamh Grant took silvers in the U15 discuss and U13 shot putt and there was silver also in the 800m for Joshua Milne. Further bronze medals were claimed by Darrin Cameron in the men’s 100m, Sam Anderson (U17) 400m and Tom Jenkins (U17) high jump.

Double bronze for Georgie Newlands in the U15 javelin and discus, bronze for James Newlands (U15) high jump and two further bronze medals for U13s Niamh Grant and Megan McKay in the long jump and 800m.
