MRRs young and old descended upon Inverness for this year’s North District Track and Field Champs with PBs, Medals and strong performances throughout the 2 days.
The action kicked off on the Friday evening with notable Golds for Tamsin Fowlie and Andrew Stoker in the 200m (both Championship Best Performances) and Blair Milne and Grace Whelan in the 1500m.
Silvers for Kyle Wilkinson (200m) and Cian Jones (Hammer) rounded off a great opening evening for the Club.
Saturday proved to be even more exciting with our specialist seniors coming to the fore. How pleasing it was to see Kevin Morice (High Hurdles), Gary Sweeney (Shot Putt, Discus) and Dionne Milne (Discus) once again donning the yellow vest to add to their vast North District Medal collection.
First time 5000m senior medals for James Wilson and Michelle Slater (Silvers) and Elspeth Jenkins (Bronze) made it a great day for our senior athletes.
Further Golds came for Tamsin, Andrew and Kyle in the 100m as well as Long Jump gold and silver for Kyle and Tamsin respectively.
Well done to Beth Grant and Tom Jenkins for making it through the heats to qualify for the 100m finals. Tom also took Bronze in the Long Jump.
Not to be outdone by the seniors, our junior throwers performed admirably with Georgie Newlands claiming silver in the Javelin and Discus and Niamh Grant taking Bronze in the Shot Putt. Grace Whelan took gold in the 800m in a great display of front running.
Amidst all the medals were further strong performances over the 2 days from Kevin, Beth, Georgie, Niamh, Niamh Whelan, Harriet Whelan, Megan McKay and Grace Jenkins ensuring that the club’s profile was high across a wide range of events. Another proud day for MRR so a huge well done to everyone.
