North District X-Country League – Thurso – 14/11/2015

A few late call-offs meant that 13 hardy souls ventured north to Thurso for the 3rd round of the North District XC League.

12227643_10206738764240706_4590313507351501625_nVery wet and muddy conditions underfoot along with a steady breeze meant that this was a stern test of strength over speed and there were strong performances throughout the races from MRR athletes.

Niamh Whelan (U13) outsprinted her rival to take 2nd place with Joshua Milne also claiming 2nd in the U13 boys’ race.

Morgan Lewis (U15) was our other travelling junior athlete.

Juliet McBean and Amanda Strang were our only senior females but both were happy with their runs.  Despite falling 3 times Juliet still recorded a top half finish with Amanda finishing 18th (results tbc).

In the senior men’s race Kenny Wilson claimed 2nd spot and led the team of Gareth Jenkins, Colin Green, Ally Campbell, Martin Flynn and Garry Henderson to another competitive team placing.  Great to see Martin Flynn back representing the Club and also great to see Garry Henderson ‘revelling’ in the testing conditions!

Many thanks to Mike Whelan for driving the minibus and a big thank you to Caithness AAC for hosting the race.
