Scottish National XC Championships – 22/02/2015

XC Champs11 MRR members ventured south to take part amongst Scotland’s best as Callender Park, Falkirk once again hosted the National XC Champs.

The wet and windy conditions took their toll on the course as it turned into a mudbath as the races progressed.

First up was Niamh Whelan who ran well to finish in the top half of the U13 field.  Grace Whelan also ran well to finish 28th out of 111 starters in the U15 race.

There were mixed emotions for Cameron Main in the U15 Boys’ Race as a fall at the start put paid to any hopes of a podium finish.  However, he can take great pride from the fact that he battled through the field to finish 5th in a high quality field.

Linda Smith and Amanda Strang were our sole representatives in the Ladies Race and both acquitted themselves well in the deteriorating conditions.

Former MRR Junior, Gemma Cormack, running for her 1st Claim Club, Aberdeen AAC, had a great run to finish in the top 20.

There were mixed feelings also for the senior men as the muddy course suited some better than others.  That said, the team of Kenny Wilson, Gareth Jenkins, Paul Taylor, Darrin Cameron, Colin Green and Simon Dobbs finished 22nd overall, amassing a better points total than the previous year.

Well done to everyone involved this year and hopefully get a few more along to the event next year.
