Forres Cross Country 15 February 2014
The curtain came down on the North District Cross Country League as Forres played host to the final fixture of the season. The mixture of hills, leaves, tight turns and mud provided the usual test of endurance around the Grant Park course and this year was no exception despite the pleasant weather. In the junior races there was a good turnout of yellow vests in the U11 races with Niamh Whelan, Alice Craig, Grace Jenkins, Megan McKay, Harriet Whelan and Niamh Grant all bringing the season to a close with good runs. Blair Milne had a real battle in his race to dead heat for 2nd place and take 2nd place overall in the league, Brother, Joshua Milne also sprinted hard to claim 4th place on the line. Well done also to Alex Paterson on his 1st race for the Club. In the U13 categories Grace Whelan claimed her 3rd victory of the season and with it a share of the League title – well done Grace. Cara Nally and Beth Grant also ran well and can now look forward to the track season. Morgan Lewis proved his consistency once again when finishing 6th in his race to cap off a good season with Tomas Coelho running well also. In the U15 Boys race Cameron Main secured the overall runners up spot with another strong run to finish 2nd, his 3rd consecutive 2nd place of the season and Sam Anderson completed his season and can also now look forward to the Petrofac Athletics League .
In the senior races, Gareth Jenkins (7th) took 1st Vet 40 in the league with Kenny Wilson (12th), Paul Taylor (16th), Colin Green (20th), John-Paul Downey (33rd) and Keith Macarthur (37th) also taking part as they all prepare for the National Champs in Falkirk on 22nd Feb – good luck guys. The Ladies team were led home by Karen Norvell (14th) with Sarah Houston (18th), Amanda Strang (27th) and Jenni Coelho (33rd) bringing their X-Country season to a close. As always, a huge thank you to Forres Harriers for their organisation and excellent hospitality and, finally, to the league organisers on what has been a fantastic season throughout.
