On Saturday 21st June I competed in the Highland Cross, a 50 mile duathlon with a rugged 20 mile hill run through Glen Affric followed by a 30mile bike race, completing it in 4h45m58 finishing behind Louise Cartmell in 4h43m12.
I was first super senior(60 and over male), the first (and probably the last) time I have ever been on a podium but well worth the 60 year wait. I thought my season was finished when I broke ribs on a training run at the end of April but I was able to keep cycling until I was able to start running again at the end of May.
The Highland Cross is a sponsored event, one of the nominated charities being the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association which has a special resonance for me so I thought it would be an opportunity to raise some money for this charity.
