There was a good showing of MRRs at this redone event. It was the first time it had been held at Brodie Castle and it has replaced the Dyke 10km. It was also the North District 10km Championships. The places were filled quickly with 300 entrants and a waiting list. The MRRs running were: Kenny Wilson, Gareth Jenkins, Ally Campbell, Simon Garland, Robert Bruce, Karen Norvell, Toks Osunrinade, Barbara Bowie, Kirsteen Carmichael and David Ingleby.
Kenny Wilson won this race and became North District 10km Champ, he has summed up his race below:
My Brodie Castle 10km:
Warm but windy conditions met us for the new Brodie 10k, good for this time of year. I got there early and done a good warm up, 1.5 mile jog with some of the Harriers plus strides, in case it was a quick start to the race.
As we set off Gordon took the lead and I settled in behind him with Stephen. I felt comfortable at 1k and as we turned onto the road took my turn at the front. I realised I was edging away slightly so decided to make a move and increase the pace ( I didn’t want to chance a sprint finish at the end with them ) to see if I could make a gap. At the junction after Dyke I felt it was working well so kept it going, and at 5km I had around 25 secs and was level with my PB pace. By this time we were all running into a strong headwind so it was important to keep working away until the turn at 8k, where you could feel it in the legs. I saw I had a good gap but there was a good battle with Gareth working his way up to Gordon and Stephen. Because of that, I felt they were going to finish strongly, pushing each other so the last 2k was all about keeping a good pace up.
A really nice finish up the grounds awaited us running towards the castle.
Really pleased with the time and medal.
Now to train hard and get ready for the future races.
A good run by Kenny with Gareth Jenkins getting 1st M40 and Barbara Bowie getting 1st F60 a good haul of medals for MRRs with everyone else enjoying this race and especially the good spread that was put on by Forres Harriers
