Both Jon Ward and John Anderson had been training to undertake this huge 100 mile challenge recently. The were running to raise funds for Samaritans and had a Justgiving page. If you wish to donate you can by clicking HERE
Very sadly Jon passed the week before it was due.
Sally at Moray Road Runners, his local club picked up the baton and hastily arranged the club runners and friends to support John so that the charity of Samaritans would not miss out and as a tribute to Jon.
They gathered at 5am in Lossiemouth and 21 hours later they were proud to cross the finish line with John leading the way, something he continually done throughout the day. Everyone who could, took the time at very short notice to come along and run or support for the trip.
Jon was a one off runner. He was truly committed to the sport and you could find him taking on some of the most difficult races throughout the country and overseas. Saying that, Jon also was as committed to running parkrun as he was the ultras and it was great to see him out at our local Elgin parkrun either blasting round or volunteering. He has left a huge hole in the running world and left us all feeling the pain of losing a runchum. His family and girlfriend hopefully will find solace in the fact so many people loved him and looked up to him. Our thoughts are with them at this time and we will never, ever forget Wardy….RIP. Run In Peace… And as for John. well, he excelled himself on the day and his run partner would be very chuffed with the effort he put in.
