It was a great occasion for MRR at the National XC Relays as, for the first time in the Club’s history, a Ladies Team entered the event. Along with 3 competing Men’s teams, it was fantastic to see the yellow vests flying the flag for the North at senior level.
Once again Cumbernauld played host to the relays and the crisp, dry conditions set the scene for a fast, hard race on the grassy, undulating course. First up were the Ladies quartet of Kirstie Rogan, Justine Blaszk, Michelle Slater and Grace Whelan who all battled superbly throughout before eventually securing a final placing in the top half of the field – 21st out of 45 teams. This was an outstanding performance in a high quality Ladies race with several Scottish Champions and GB athletes taking part.
119 complete teams took part in the Men’s race so it was always going to be tough for our 3 teams –
A – Kenny Wilson, Robbie Paterson, James Wilson, Ewan Davidson
B – Cameron Main, Alasdair Campbell, Andy Alexander, Jon Ward
Masters – Gareth Jenkins, Colin Green, Martin Bain, Paul Rogan
How superb it was to hear the on-course commentator mentioning Moray Road Runners throughout the 1st leg as Kenny led the field in the early stages. With everyone giving it their all, the teams overall placings were 14th(A), 50th(Masters), 62nd(B).
This was a really proud day for the Club and hopefully we’ll see even more people taking part in this event next year.
